A clear architectural direction before a full commission
A site may already be chosen. The ambitions for the residence may be clear. Yet the essential architectural question can remain unresolved: how should this particular place and this particular way of living become a house?
A Discovery Study answers that question before the greater commitments of a full architectural commission are made. As an independent commissioned phase, it brings place, inhabitation and architectural possibility into one resolved proposition.

A direction specific to the place
The study establishes how the residence might belong to its setting and to the lives unfolding within it. It resolves the project’s spatial order, relationship to landscape, atmosphere and principal architectural character with enough precision for the proposition to be understood and evaluated as a whole.
A complete architectural proposition
Each Discovery Study takes the form appropriate to the project. Drawings, visualisations and spatial studies are developed where they contribute to understanding the residence as a whole. Together, they communicate its experience, organization and underlying logic rather than presenting isolated images or design ideas.
Six to eight weeks
The study is undertaken as a distinct phase and has independent value. It can become the foundation for Tormenti’s continued architectural authorship, but it does not require a subsequent commission. Its purpose is to give the residence a clear architectural direction before that decision is made.
The first architectural decision, made with clarity.
